Global Mobility is a sector that is experiencing a time of great ferment at an international level. Removals, shipments, logistics, international transfers of animals, Relocation services and warehousing are just a few areas that compose this fascinating world.
We often know the process that leads from an initial input to the final one. We come to know how our removal takes place, how our pet travels from one country to another, how a Relocation service is planned. Instead, our objective is to plunge into this fascinating world by interviewing the leading figures that compose it and live it on a day to day basis.
This is not only a question of “goods” but of successful people who have invested resources for a greater objective, going beyond their professional role. All these people are Global Mobility Leaders and it is our duty to interview them and make them known to the public.
What will we ask them?
Information on their sector, their background, how they see the development of the market of reference over the next few years. Finally, we will get to know them better through more personal questions.
Are you ready to face this new adventure? If you are, follow us:
The first person to be interviewed is Terry Head, IAM’s President-in-office. IAM is one of the most important associations dealing with the Global Mobility world. The great esteem and admiration held for him by Mr. Francesco Argirò, President & CEO of the Bliss Group, led us to ask him to be the first to “get the show going” in this new Heading. What more can I say, happy reading!
Introduce yourself, tell us something about you

I am Terry Head. What most people don’t know is that I’m a ‘local boy.’ My office is less than a mile (1.6 km) from where I was born. I’ve lived my entire life here in the Washington, DC area and my family has lived here in Virginia since the late 1600’s. Even though I never strayed far from my deep family roots, I’ve benefited from a rewarding global career and have been blessed with countless friends around the world.
What do you do for a living? What kind of relationship do you have with the Global Mobility world? (Indicate also your role and your years of experience in this field)
I am currently President of the International Association of Mover (IAM) which is a trade association representing companies and individuals in 170 countries who are engaged in or have an interest in the moving, relocation and mobility industries. I have been in that role for over 21 years and have worked in the industry for over 50 years starting as a driver’s helper (porter) working my way up the ranks in a variety of positions leading up to ownership before selling and joining the Association.
What kind of characteristics are required for a professional to operate correctly within your field of competence?
In my role, I am primarily expected to develop a vision, set a strategic direction and lead others in accomplishing that mission or objective. I’ve learned to be successful it’s not through big talk, ego or by being demanding. It is by being a good listener and by empowering people, giving them the tools, as well as, the confidence they can contribute and accomplish your common objectives.
How do you imagine your sector 10 years from now?
Having the benefit of my age and years within the industry I know somethings will never change and others will drastically change. We’ll always need the labor force to do the physical side of moving, at least until robots can do the work, but that’s likely ten years or more away. What will continue to change is the demographics of our customers, as well as their demands. They are going to want quality, they’re going to want it priced right…and they’re going to want it on their terms and timelines.
How do you spend your leisure time? What makes you feel really good?

I love my job and spend a lot of weekend time at the
office or on official travel, but when it’s time to relax I like staying at home. I am blessed to live on the Potomac River and my boats are right out the back door. My wife and I just recently bought shares in a beach house up on the Jersey Shore, so I see us spending more time along the ocean as well. I also like to read and watch old westerns and war films.

How did you get into contact with Bliss? What impressed you about our reality?
I came in contact with Bliss once they became a member of IAM. Although Bliss was a young company compared to other IAM members, I knew right from the start through its’ focus on integrity and innovation that this was a company on the rise.
How did you meet the President of Bliss Corporation, Francesco Argirò? What do you have in common?
I believe I first met Francesco during one of the IAM conferences, but it wasn’t until we were both attending another industry conference in Asia that we really started to get to know each other. Our friendship grows every year through our common appreciation and respect for people and my wife Laura absolutely adores him…as do I.
